Portobello Lodgings for Dishoom, Portobello Road
London • Commercial

When interior architects Macaulay Sinclair approached us with a special commission to create two bespoke beds for a well-known restaurant brand, we were genuinely excited to be involved in such a distinctive and creative project. Portobello Lodgings, Dishoom’s first-ever overnight guest experience, is situated above Dishoom’s new Permit Room all-day bar and cafe on Portobello Road, West London.
Part of Macaulay Sinclair’s design for Portobello Lodgings takes inspiration from the beautiful hotels of Bombay. The beds for both ensuite bedrooms were specifically inspired by those found in the iconic Bentleys Hotel in Mumbai.
Working closely with their design team, we crafted each bed from solid sapele, carefully stained to complement the surrounding interiors. This collaboration allowed us to showcase not only the quality of our materials but also our commitment to precision and detail in every element of the build.

At West Bridgford Joinery, we take great pride in all the furniture we make — whether it’s a full interior fit-out or a one-off piece with a story behind it. Commissions like this are especially rewarding, allowing us to bring together traditional craftsmanship with a truly bespoke brief.
The best part? These beds are now installed and ready to be enjoyed by the public. We’d encourage you to visit and experience them in person - and if you do, let us know what you think.
A big thank you to Macaulay Sinclair for the opportunity. We remain passionate about working on unique projects like this, and always welcome new ideas that push our creativity and expertise.
