Bespoke oak display cabinets for 200 Degrees’ cafes

In 2022, independent coffee shop and roastery company 200 Degrees invited West Bridgford Joinery to collaborate on the design and manufacture of a bespoke glass and oak display cabinet.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, 200 Degrees needed a piece of furniture that would display and protect their handmade pastries and sandwiches on the counters of their coffee shops around the UK.

They sent an initial sketch of an old-fashioned department store-style display cabinet and the design team worked closely to turn it into a functional food display unit. 200 Degrees’ coffee shops are distinctively stylish, blending industrial and rustic design, so the cake display units needed to be far from what you’d expect on the counter of mainstream chain cafes.

After six months of R&D, modelling, staining and road testing, alongside important staff feedback, West Bridgford Joinery created its first batch of three-bay display cabinets. They satisfied the aesthetic requirements and the need to find a perfect way to display 200 Degrees’ baked goods. The end result is a revival of a classic design brought up to date for use as a food display cabinet.

The team worked with one of the last-remaining glass benders in the UK to make the beautiful curved glass, which means that each individual unit is a little bit different.
